Well technically the plug hasn't yet been pulled on Sailor
Moon. Pioneer just released the three Sailor Moon movies
uncut on video(subtitled). Starting in Feb. Pioneer is
releasing the three movies in both dub and subtitled formats
on DVD. Also it seems that Cartoon Network which runs the
dubbed Sailor Moon episodes are interested in acquiring
new episodes.
I'm all for purity in anime broadcasts, but unfortunately
Sailor Moon, not to mention DragonBall Z, were in
syndication in the U.S. at one time and thus were subjected
to strict FCC guidlines which were in part responsible for
the censorship of SM. Unfortunately that is only a part
of the reason. The more anime becomes mainstream on
American televisions you will more than likely find the
censorship debate flame into an inferno, especially with
such titles as Gundam Wing, Slayers and Card Captor Sakura
appearing on television next year. I, myself, am curious
to find out what the Sci-Fi channel will edit out of Slayers
when they begin broadcasting this great show in January.
