Actually. . . I got a couple of replies from him when I was
asking about the condition of a cel - when I told him I
wanted to order it, though, I heard nothing back.

I don't know if it makes a difference, but in my first e-mail
(in English) I offered to him that I spoke French and to
please reply in French if he preferred. He did and all
other communication I sent was sent in French.

It is true that there are people in France who don't want
to deal with Americans (or other foreigners), but I don't
think this is the case here. First, I don't speak French
nearly well enough to pass myself off as a native. ^_^'
Second, he's seemed nice enough to me and even extended an
offer to help me find cels from the French animated series
known as "Nighthood".

(And a side note to the person who said not to trust anyone
in France. . . EVERY country has people who dislike
foreigners, including your country and mine. There's no
reason to slam France in particular.)

But all that said, I haven't heard back from my last e-mail
either. (*shrug*) Of course, if his computer has crashed or
if something has happened to him, it's not as if any of us
would be told. . .
