Re: Whats the deal with cels.org doing false updates? (Sun Feb 27 10:32:48 2000

I think that I already answered that one : Don't forget that I wrote the program to check if there was any change on a given page. It can't automagicaly guess that some typo was fixed instead of some new cels being added... (I may try to do something more complex latter when I have time). So sometime, a change is displayed when it's only the provider that moved the pages around on the server or "touched" the files... There may be another reason : Sometime when doing the check there may be network problems. The program may not be able to connect to the site. Or the page may be temporarly unavailable (too much load on the server, server down,...). I try to catch such errors and report a "down" but I may still have missed some special conditions : that kind of network programnig is relatively complex and I first did that program as a quick patch for myself :) (but the online version is already far better than the one I was used : on some sites, it was reporting change every few hours -laugh-) Cheers, Yann Stettler |
