>Anime Taro was selling PENCIL SKETCHES for 300.00 usd!
Yes, $300 is expensive for a pencil sketch, but I must
admit, I did spend $400 for a pencil sketch of Briar Rose
(aka Princess Aurora) from Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
Naturally, Disney cels cost more, but as certain Japanese
shows become "classics", their prices get high too. Ghibli
is expensive too. But I think Ghibli's films deserve that
high of a price. (I don't spend that much anymore, though.)
>The average american can't spend 2,000 on a cel. Heck, that's
>car payments, paychecks, and tuitions...
Well, (sorry to bring in the Disney comparison again)
more Americans probably collect Disney animation art, which
costs $2000-$3000 alone for a "limited edition" cel. So
Anime cels are cheap in comparison. (At least that's what I
tell myself)
I agree that prices are high-- but there are still many
series that you can find reasonably priced cels from. I too
would love to have cels from Lodoss, but as it's not my #1
favorite series, I can live without them. Watch lots of anime,
and you'll probably find other shows that you like even more.
For now, I'm content with my one cel of Lain Iwakura.
