-sigh- ok, ok... Well, many people use dial-up line to connect or don't have that good a connection. So they can't bid during the last few seconds as they would have far to many chance of missing the end... Now, do you believe that many people bid realy the higest amount they are ready to pay even if the current bid is much lower ? Personaly I don't think so. Many people bid. But when they are outbided, they may probably bid again slightly higher. And if that's not enough, probably they will try again slightly higher... Not many people will bid immediatly 250.- on an item that is currently at 50.- They will probably bid 80.- and when they are outbided, they will try a little higher... until they reach 250.- That's why many people wait as long as possible before placing their bid. You suddenly have many bids during the last minutes. There is absolutly no advantage in biding before the last time possible... If naturaly, you can do it... which mean good lines, beeing infront of the computer when the auction end or having a program that will do it for you... Clear(er) now ? Some people say that auction is fairer than "first come" because that let more time to see the stuff... So you should then try to avoid that it's become "the one who has the best connection". :) Naturaly, if you realy wanted to do things fully, you would bid as near the end of the auction as possible and then follow your bid by a "denial of service" attack on the webserver, preventing other people to bid. That already happened several time with Ebay... (Don't try it at home : It's computer piracy...) Cheers, Yann S. |
