"Golden Week" is the name given to this time of year, when 4 Japanese
national holidays occur in a week's time.
They holidays consist of the following:
4/29 Greenery Day (Midori no Hi)
5/3 Kempo Kinembi (Constitution Memorial Day)
5/4 Just a designated holiday to bridge the others
5/5 Children's Day (Kodomo no Hi)
Many businesses also shut down for the days in and around the designated
holidays to keep the continuaty in the days off that they give their
employees. It is a time when many (or most) families go on vacations
and the lines in to many attractions are rediculously long and travel prices
go sky high. But it appears that the Japanese have patience and they always
quietly wait.
The thing about these holidays as it seems to be very crippling (though
the Japanese seem to accept it with no problem), as all banks and
government offices are closed, including ATM machines!
