two layer cel with rice paper - help :-) (Wed Jul 21 18:24:30 1999

I have a bit of a problem regarding a cel I recently received, and searching through the archives of this forum didn't really turn up anything, so I'm turning to the collective wisdom here :-). This cel is two layers. It has very obviously been stuck together in the past and separated, as there is a good bit of paint from the top layer all over the front of the bottom cel. Surprisingly, this really hasn't damaged the top layer that I can see. After separation, a layer of rice paper was put in between the cels, and as expected, it's adhered to the top layer quite well. Unfortunately, this rice paper really obscures the bottom layer, to the point where it's very hard to see. It's also starting to stick to the adhered paint of the bottom layer. I've been trying to determine what to do about this. I don't care if multilayer cels stick together - they're all one picture to me :-). If I tried to tear away the rice paper from the areas where it's not stuck, how would I go about doing this so as not to damage the cel it's stuck to? Any other thoughts or opinions? I haven't done anything with this cel yet, other than think about what can be done :-). Thanks. |
