Backlighting is a sort of special effect.  Usually, the cels
that are backlit are either paint black on the back or have
something like black paper. (I assume this is so that the light 
doesn't shine through the paint, making the character look very 
weird!).  Sometimes, because the character was lit from behind, 
there was no background visible during the scene (I'm not sure 
there was a background created for the scene).  However, this 
is not always the case, so know your scenes well.  I believe more
